Medical Care

Should your pet need medical attention, our staff is here to assist in any way we can.   We have a full range of diagnostic tools, equipment, and medication needed to help nurse your pet back to good health.

Sick PetsExamination

If your pet is sick, call to schedule an examination with one of our veterinarians.  We will start with a thorough examination of your pet, and explain what may be going on.  If any additional tests are necessary to diagnose your pet, we will discuss the different diagnostic options available to you.  When it's time to decide on treatment options, we will explain the risks and benefits of each treatment option and help you decide on a plan that you and your pet are comfortable with.

We have 2 full surgical suites at Mesa Veterinary Hospital and a team of experienced veterinarians who will perform the surgery.  We offer routine procedures such as spays and neuters, as well as advanced soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries.  All of our procedures are monitored by the veterinarian and certified veterinary technician, to ensure that your pet's surgery experience is a safe one. We have heated surgery tables for greater comfort and post-operative recovery; advanced sterilization techniques; and ECG, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation monitors for enhanced safety. Post-operatively, we pay special attention to pain management and have the capability to provide 24 hour continuous pain relief for your pet if necessary.

Should your pet have a heart-related condition, Mesa Veterinary Hospital has all the tools to help diagnose and treat your pet.  We have ECG capabilities to detect abnormal electrical rhythms in the heart, and we have a board certified cardiologist visit twice monthly to perform echocardiograms (ultrasounds of the heart) and help guide therapy for our cardiac patients.

Intensive CareIntensive Care

Our ICU is reserved for those patients who need extra care.  Our highly trained certified veterinary technicians check on patients in the ICU constantly while performing treatments and administering care.  We have an oxygen cage in our ICU for those patients who need it.  Like the rest of the hospital, 24 hour monitoring of patients is provided.

Blood Transfusions

We have access to a supply of blood for all types of pets in case of emergency. The blood is collected from donor pets that live with their owners, and all blood is carefully screened for disease.  If a blood transfusion is needed, we may first cross-match and/or type your pet's blood to check for any potential for a reaction.  Blood transfusions can prove to be life saving in those patients who require it.

Chemotherapy in pets is not the same as chemotherapy in people.  Many times we do not dose as high and common chemotherapy signs such as vomiting, nausea, and hair loss are not seen.  If your pet is diagnosed with cancer, chemotherapy can sometimes provide extra months to years of happy, healthy time.  We offer chemotherapy at Mesa Veterinary Hospital for select patients.
